Guido Brignone (actually Giuda Brignone , born December 6, 1886 in Milan , † March 6, 1959 in Rome ) was an Italian actor , film director and screenwriter .

Life

He was born in Milan as the son of the theater and later film actor Giuseppe Brignone . Like his older sister Mercedes , Guido devoted himself to an artistic career at an early age and initially became a theater actor. He gained his first stage experience with Mercedes. In 1914 he moved to Rome with his wife Lola Visconti, who died in 1924, where the couple sometimes became artistically active together.

In 1915 Brignone began his career as a director with the silent film Odette , followed by popular film adaptations. In the mid-1920s he made a name for himself in German-speaking countries with his Maciste films and finally emigrated to Germany via France in 1927 due to a serious crisis in Italian cinema. Five feature film productions were made here. In 1930 he returned to Italy, where he directed further production until 1958, some of which experienced a commercially successful film exploitation.

He is the father of actress Lilla Brignone .

Brignone was the first Italian director to win the Coppa Mussolini for Best National Film ( Teresa Confalonieri , 1934) at the Venice International Film Festival .
