Pina Menichelli
Pina Menichelli (born January 10, 1890 in Castroreale , † August 29, 1984 in Milan ) was an Italian theater and silent film actress . Along with Lyda Borelli and Francesca Bertini, she is one of the most famous divas of Italian silent film .
Life
Giuseppina Menichelli, born the daughter of Sicilian actors, made her debut in 1907 in the theater group of actress Irma Gramatica . In 1913 she appeared in a film for the first time and with her demonically seductive acting became one of the most famous divas in Italian film of the 1910s alongside Francesca Bertini and Lyda Borelli. She played for the film company Cines under Enrico Guazzoni , Nino Martoglio , Baldassarre Negroni , Nino Oxilia and Augusto Genina . She reached the peak of her career with the films Il Fuoco (1916) and Tigre Reale (1916), both alongside Febo Mari and directed by Giovanni Pastrone .
In the early 1920s she tried to change her image with roles in literary adaptations under Amleto Palermi and Telemaco Ruggeri , but did not achieve the earlier success. She played her last role in Occupati d'Amelia based on a play by Georges Feydeau . In 1925 she retired into private life.
