Nino Martoglio
Nino Martoglio (born December 3, 1870 in Belpasso , † September 15, 1921 in Catania ) was an Italian writer, publisher, director and producer. He is one of the representatives of the Sicilian language .
Live and act
From 1889 to 1904 he published the weekly D'Artagnan in Catania , which dealt with cultural topics and contained political satire.
In 1903 he founded the theater group Compagnia drammatica Siciliana in Catania . a. performed new works by Luigi Pirandello .
From 1913 he worked as a director of plays and films. Well-known films include Sperduti nel buio (1914) and Teresa Raquin (1915) based on the novel Thérèse Raquin by Émile Zola .
His films shaped the veristic film .
Since 1987 the Nino Martoglio International Book Award , a literary prize for Sicilian writers , has been presented in his birthplace Belpasso .
