Hermann Blaß
Hermann Blass , alternatively Hermann Blass (born March 29, 1888 in Vienna , † September 18, 1941 in New York City ), was an Austrian actor .
Life
Blaß's father came from Lemberg and worked as a clothing salesman. Hermann Blaß received training in singing and acting and began his career as a singer in Sibiu in 1909 . Other theater stations were Saaz , the opera from Brno and Berlin , where he arrived in 1918 to fulfill an obligation at the Theater des Westens . In the German capital he also appeared at the Komische Oper and the Thalia Theater. His most famous role was Count Danilo in the operetta The Merry Widow .
Blaß, who had some film experience since the 1920s, became a busy supporting actor at the start of the talkies. He played notaries, doctors, directors and pianists in a number of entertainment films, among others. As a result of the seizure of power , the Jew Blaß had to leave Germany in 1933 and returned to Vienna via Hungary , where he starred in two emigre films. After the annexation of Austria , Blaß left for the USA in February 1939. There he found a little occupation in cabaret events by other emigrants and took part in a tiny role in a movie production by Max Nosseck .
