Life

Nosseck studied art in Vienna and came to Berlin as an apprentice around 1918 . He appeared in skits and was anonymous in films. In 1922 the twenty year old founded his own production company, “Nosskess-Film”. With himself in the lead role, he produced several short films, but in 1923 he had to file for bankruptcy.

He then worked for a year in the USA. After his return he worked as a stage actor in Berlin and can be seen in several silent films. In 1925 he founded the jazz band "Mac and Nolly", with which he appeared in Berlin cabarets. In 1930 he made his directorial debut with the film comedy Das Liebeskleeblatt . After the great success of Der Schlemihl with Curt Bois in the lead role, he switched to directing.

After the seizure of power by the Nazis, he emigrated as a Jew to France in 1933. In the following years, besides France, Nosseck worked in Spain, Portugal and the Netherlands. In 1939 he settled in the USA. Here he was, sometimes under the name Alexander M. Norris , mainly employed for MGM .

In 1955 he returned to Germany, where he made his new debut with the military satire Der Hauptmann und seine Held . After that he worked primarily as a screenwriter and directed television films. Towards the end of his career, Nosseck reappeared as an actor. However, he was limited to very small appearances, such as the older crook in the crook comedy The Gentlemen with the White Waistcoat .

Nosseck's first marriage was to actress Olly Gebauer , his second to Geneviève Haugan and, since 1955, to actress Ilse Steppat .
