Winston Ntshona

Winston Ntshona (born October 6, 1941 in Port Elizabeth , Cape Province , † August 2, 2018 ) was a South African film and theater actor .

Life

Before his acting career, Winston Ntshona worked as a worker in a factory for Ford and was responsible for the production of car engines . In 1967 the South African writer John Kani became aware of Ntshona, who accepted Ntshona together with Athol Fugard in the Serpent Players theater company . The group belonged to the anti- apartheid movement in South Africa. The Serpent Players also went on tour, including briefly on Broadway in 1975 . That same year, Ntshona and Kani also received the Tony Award for Best Actor.

Now that Hollywood became aware of the South African, Ntshona got the first film offers, so that from 1974 he could be seen in small supporting roles in several successful films that are still known today, including the 1982 historical film Gandhi . In one of his last film roles, Ntshona starred in the 2006 drama Blood Diamond . In 2010 he received the Order of Ikhamanga in silver.
