Worringen Castle

The castle Worringen , also Cologne Castle called, is a Outbound Electorate of Cologne castle on the left bank of the Rhine in Cologne-Worringen .

At the end of May 1288, the opponents of the archbishopric negotiated a Landfriedensbund, one of the goals of which was the razing of the castle built in 1275. The castle was besieged from May 29th to June 5th . West of the castle, the Battle of Worringen took place on June 5, 1288, which ended the six-year Limburg succession dispute with the defeat of Archbishop Siegfried von Westerburg and his allies .

As a result, the left bank of the Rhine was softened. The castle was destroyed in October 1288 and never rebuilt.
