Jessica Walter (born January 31, 1941 in Brooklyn , New York City , New York ) is an American actress .
Life
Jessica Walter was born in Brooklyn, New York City, to Jewish parents in 1941 , grew up in Queens , and graduated from the High School of Performing Arts . She completed her theater education in her hometown at the Bucks County Playhouse and with James Caan and Christopher Lloyd at New York's Neighborhood Playhouse . Walter gained his first acting experience in the American summer theater and on New York's Broadway . She had her first Broadway engagement in the early 1960s as a substitute actress for the play Advise and Consent . In 1962 she took on her first major television role in the soap opera Love of Life for a total of three years .
Walter had her first film role in 1964 in Lilith at the side of Warren Beatty and Peter Fonda . Numerous guest appearances in various television series followed. On March 27, 1966, Walter married the actor Ross Bowman. The marriage, from which a daughter (* 1971) emerged, was divorced in 1978. She had her breakthrough in 1967 in the Oscar- winning film Grand Prix . Walter received a Golden Globe nomination for her portrayal . Her performance in the thriller Sadistico , alongside Clint Eastwood , earned her another Golden Globe nomination in 1972. Her portrayal of a psychotic stalker was highlighted by Roger Ebert , among others, as “unnerving effectiveness” . In 1974 she took on the lead role in Amy Prentiss , the spin-off of the television series The Boss . For this role she received an Emmy in 1975.
Since the 1980s, Walter has mainly been working as a television actress. In the television series Die Dinos she also took on a speaking role from 1991 to 1994. In Germany she is best known for portraying the eccentric Lucille Bluth from Arrested Development , who she played from 2003 to 2006. In May 2013, the series returned to the video-on-demand provider Netflix for 15 new episodes in which she took up her role again. For this role she received a Satellite Award in 2003. Since 2008 she has been in front of the camera for the 90210 series , another Beverly Hills spin-off , 90210 . From 2011 to 2012 she played Elaine Robbins in the series Retired at 35 .
From June 26, 1983, Walter was married to the actor Ron Leibman in his second marriage until his death on December 6, 2019.
