Ron Leibman
Ron Leibman (born October 11, 1937 in Manhattan , New York City , New York ; † December 6, 2019 there ) was an American actor .
Life
Ron Leibman attended Ohio Wesleyan University , which he graduated in 1958. He then toured with the improvisational theater group Compass Players in Chicago and St. Louis before returning to New York to join The Actors Studio . After a few off-Broadway appearances from the late 1950s, he had his first engagement on Broadway in 1963 . In the same year he also had his first television roles. During the 1960s he worked mainly on Broadway until he appeared in Carl Reiner's comedy Wo is' Papa? had a first major film role. Two years later he starred alongside Robert Redford and George Segal in Peter Yates ' Four Weird Birds .
The series Kaz & Co , developed by Leibman and broadcast on CBS , was canceled in 1979 after only one season with 23 episodes, but he received an Emmy Award for his performance . With this series he also became known to the German television audience. In 1984 he was nominated for the Golden Raspberry for his role in The Whiz, alongside Dolly Parton and Sylvester Stallone , and two years later he received a Golden Globe Award nomination for Merry Christmas, Mrs. Kingsley . In 1993 he won for his performance in the Pulitzer Prize- winning production Angels in America the Tony Award . Between 1995 and 1996 he played one of the leading roles in the Central Park West series . He had recurring guest roles in the sitcom Friends (as the rich, hot-headed father of Rachel Green ) and in The Sopranos (as Dr. Plepler). His work encompassed more than 50 film and television productions.
Leibman had a second marriage to actress Jessica Walter since 1983 . Between 1969 and 1981 he was married to Linda Lavin . He was a professor at The New School in New York. Leibman died of pneumonia at the age of 82 .
