Linda Lavin (born October 15, 1937 in Portland , Maine ) is an American singer and actress , best known for her longstanding role as Alice Hyatt in the sitcom Imbß mit Bß .

Life

Linda Lavin attended the College of William & Mary . After various off-Broadway engagements, she first appeared on Broadway in 1962 . The following year she had a guest role in a television series. It wasn't until 1967 that she had a major television role in the adaptation of the musical Damn Yankees on the side of Lee Remick and Phil Silvers . Between 1975 and 1976 she had a recurring role in the series Barney Miller , which she gave up in favor of the lead role in the sitcom Snack With Bite . The series, which is based on Martin Scorsese's film Alice Lives Here , was produced from 1976 to 1985 and received a total of five Emmy nominations and three Golden Globe Awards . Lavin also sang the theme song and directed later seasons.

In addition to her theater and television engagements, Lavin only appeared in three films, The Muppets Conquer Manhattan , Second Luck with Jeff Bridges and I Want to Go Home with Gérard Depardieu . She was seen more often in films made for television. She also teaches performing arts at New York University .

Lavin has been married for the third time since 2005. Between 1969 and 1981 she was married to the actor Ron Leibman , she had a second marriage from 1982 to 1991 with Kip Niven .
