Sidney Kingsley

Sidney Kingsley (birth name: Sidney Kirshner ; born October 22, 1906 in New York City , † March 20, 1995 in Oakland , New Jersey ) was an American playwright . His play Men in White won the Pulitzer Prize for Theater in 1934 .

Life

Kingsley studied at Cornell University after school and began writing plays while still at college. Kingsley had his greatest success with his play Men in White (1933), which was awarded the Pulitzer Prize for Theater in 1934 and filmed in 1934 by Richard Boleslawski with Clark Gable and Myrna Loy . In the following years he wrote numerous other dramas and screenplays for films such as Sackgasse (1937) and Police Station 21 (1951). He later also wrote the scripts and templates for numerous television series and television films . 1952 appeared Darkness at Noon , a dramatic revision of the novel Solar Eclipse by Arthur Koestler .

Kingsley, who married actress Madge Evans in 1939 , was also a board member of Martha Graham's dance company .
