John Hough

John Hough (born November 21, 1941 in London , England ) is a British film director .

Life

John Hough began working on British film sets in various positions in his early twenties. For a while he worked as 2nd unit director and in 1968 got the opportunity to direct an episode of the then popular series Mit Schirm, Charme und Melone . His debut film Wolfshead: The Legend of Robin Hood was released in 1969. In 1972 he made a film adaptation of the book Treasure Island by Robert Louis Stevenson with Orson Welles as "Long John Silver". His first US production followed in 1974, the action film Kesse Mary - Mad Larry .

From then on, Houghs concentrated on horror and science fiction films . Films such as the hammer production Dracula's witch hunt , Escape to Witches Mountain and the sequel The Victory of the Star Children are released . In the 1980s it was mainly cheap productions like Dark Paradise and Howling . His last film after a 10-year hiatus is the slasher film Bad Karma . In 1974 he received the British Fantasy Award for Dance of the Skulls .

In addition to his work as a video and cinema director, he has also directed several television films and series productions such as The New Avengers ( Mit Schirm, Charme und Melone , 1976/1977), Dempsey & Makepeace and the hammer series Hammer House of Mystery and Suspense .

His son Paul Hough followed in his footsteps and also became a director. His best-known work is the documentary Backyard: In the backyard of hell .
