action

With the UFO , Uncle Bene brings the two siblings Tia and Tony back to civilization from the Witches Mountain for the holidays . Since setting up their own colony , they have simply given the two children a little time to themselves. But that doesn't happen, because on the way to the hotel Tony senses that something terrible is about to happen. A man is about to fall from a skyscraper. He quickly rushes to the rescue and manages to catch the falling sickle with his supernatural telekinetic powers. He is observed by the scientist Victor and Sickle's aunt Letha, because Victor had originally tested his latest mind control device on Sickle to order him to go to the skyscraper despite his fear of heights. The device worked and now he sees a new potential victim with Tony, whose thoughts he would like to control, which is why he drugged and kidnapped him.

Tia quickly goes in search of her brother. But she loses track and instead finds the Earthquake Gang , which she first has to protect from the Goos , another youth gang. Although they want to be as brave and cool as possible, the gang is a collection of scared and nice guys who are quick to help Tia with her search. When she succeeds in telepathic contact with Tony after a short time , she learns that he is in the process of stealing gold worth 3 million dollars from the museum under the control of Letha. With his powers he ensures an ominous mess, which can only be undone with the appearance of Tia and her powers. Before she can wonder why Tony is behaving so strangely, he is already on the run on the orders of Letha and Victor, which thanks to his powers also succeed.

So that Tia doesn't bother her again during the next coup, Victor sets a trap for her with the help of Tony's powers. But with her last strength she can send the goat Alfred to get help from the Earthquake gang . She also rushes over quickly and accompanies Tia while trying to stop Tony. This time, Victor sent him to an underground plutonium processing plant, where he exhibited the cooling system and blackmailed the employees for 5 million US dollars and safe conduct to the airport. When Tia learns over the radio that the city is being evacuated because of the threat of an explosion with a force of 10 megatons, she realizes the danger and faces Tony. But he only receives the order from Victor to fight his sister. Tia is still wondering why he's attacking her. Only when she discovers and destroys the mind control device, Tony is released again. With combined forces they switch the cooling system on again. After they have made Victor, Letha and Sickle harmless, they decide to leave again. They say goodbye to the gang at the stadium and travel back to Witches Mountain with Uncle Bene and the UFO.

criticism

Variety's Dave Pollock was puzzled that Disney was getting into nuclear terrorism territory. Because this children's film actually has everything to entertain. In addition to Lee, perhaps the “best Disney villain in years”, the two child actors “have matured, although they should have been a little more empathetic”.

Janet Maslin of the New York Times "got tired of all the good and clean" teachings of a Disney movie. Rather, she would have liked more fun with the two supernatural children. In addition to the few "really funny moments", she praised the performance of the actors, in particular that of Christian Juttner, who "steals the show" from most of them. However, in addition to the cheap effects, she also criticized Hough's "downright cruel direction".

The lexicon of international films saw in the film only "Disney entertainment in the guise of science fiction".
