Mark Sandrich

Mark Sandrich (actually Mark Goldstein , born August 26, 1900 in New York City , † March 4, 1945 in Hollywood ) was an American film director .

Life

Mark Sandrich started out as a film director in Hollywood when the film was still silent . He shot his first short film comedy in 1926. With the start of the sound film, he was one of the leading directors of musical comedies that he realized for RKO Pictures . He made five of the famous nine dance films with Fred Astaire and Ginger Rogers . The most famous of them is I dance myself into your heart from 1935. The literary film adaptation Eheposse , shot under his direction in 1941, received an Oscar nomination in 1942 in the category "Best Sound" .

He made his last film in 1945: Blues Skies with Fred Astaire and Bing Crosby . Sandrich died of a heart attack while filming a card game with his wife. Filming continued with director Stuart Heisler .

His sister was the photographer Ruth Harriet Louise .
