The Kipengere Mountains are located in the east of the southern highlands of Tanzania . They are densely wooded, difficult to access, rugged and hardly developed with navigable paths. They belong to the wettest areas in Tanzania and form the opposite mountain range to the Livingstone Mountains in the west of the highlands, which they both enclose. This highland extends with the Kitulo Plateau in the north to the Poroto Mountains in front of Mbeya . The highest peak of the Kipengere Mountains is Mtorwi .
