Martita Hunt

Martita Hunt (born January 30, 1900 in Buenos Aires , † June 13, 1969 in London ) was a British actress .

Life

Born on a ranch in Argentina, Martita Hunt came to their home with her parents at the age of ten and grew up in Eastbourne . She made her film debut in a short crime thriller in 1920 and made her theater debut in 1921 as a member of the Liverpool Repertory Company.

It first appeared in London's West End in 1923 . The theaters there and, from 1929 onwards, the Old Vic Theater were her preferred venues from then on. Her roles included the title character in The Beautiful Helena , Portia in The Merchant of Venice , the Nurse in Romeo and Juliet , Emilia in Othello , Countess Aurelia in The Crazy of Chaillot and Mascha in The Seagull . In 1949 she received a Tony Award for Best Actress for her acting performance in The Mad Of Chaillot .

Since 1932 she has been a busy actress in film. She played strange, eccentric, sometimes scary older women, often aristocrats or wealthy heirs.
