Life
Feilchenfeld was born as the son of the Jewish businessman Michaelis Feilchenfeld and his wife Elfriede geb. Bloch was born in his parents' apartment at Spenerstraße 7 in Berlin-Moabit. Fritz Feilchenfeld studied at the Friedrich-Wilhelms-Universität in Berlin, after which he took acting lessons against the wishes of his parents under the famous director and actor Max Reinhardt . During his training, Feilchenfeld made his film debut in Paul Wegener's film fun The Golem and the Dancer . In 1920, Fritz Feld , his later stage name, made his debut as a theater actor with Reinhardt and was his assistant director for years . In the same year he was seen in a minor supporting role in The Golem How He Was Born . In 1923 he was assigned as a unit manager for the film Wilhelm Tell .
In 1929 , Feld emigrated to the United States and went to Hollywood . Fritz Feld could only be seen in supporting roles, both small and large. One of his best-known roles from decades of film work is that of the dogged psychiatrist Dr. Lehman in Howard Hawks ' classic film Leopards You Don't Kiss (1938). Feld often played the role of the waiter. His German accent and a "Pop!" Sound, which he often made while speaking, were characteristic of him. He first used this sound in the 1947 film If You Knew Suzie . Feld later appeared in several comedies by Jerry Lewis and Mel Brooks , and he starred in many Disney productions, including two Herbie films. In addition, he played regularly guest roles on US television from the 1950s. In 1989 he ended his career with a small supporting role as an undertaker in the movie Homer and Eddie , 72 years after his first film.
From 1940 until his death he was married to his American colleague Virginia Christine Kraft (1920-1996). The mutual relationship resulted in two children. In 1937 he helped his brother Rudi Feld , film architect and production designer , to emigrate to the United States with an affidavit. Fritz Feld died at the age of 93 of complications from a heart attack and was buried in the Mount Sinai Memorial Park cemetery.
