Herbie goes crazy is an American feature film from 1980. It is the fourth film in the Herbie series and the third sequel to Ein toller Käfer .

action

Pete Stancheck and his friend Davy “DJ” Johns travel to Puerto Vallarta , Mexico , to pick up the Herbie VW Beetle, which Pete inherited from his uncle Jim Douglas. Douglas had once won the Trans-France Race with Herbie; Now the two friends want to take part in the Brazilian Grand Prix with the Wunderkäfer . There they meet a boy named Paco who steals their wallet.

At the same time, crook Sheppard and Inca expert Prindle go in search of an unknown Inca treasure. They too are victims of the young pickpocket; on his flight from the two, Paco hides in Herbie. Since Paco stole a film from the two of them with photos of the place where the treasure was found, they both go in search of the boy.

Pete and Davy travel by ship to Panama with Herbie; The captain of the ship is the despotic Blythe. On the ship, Pete and Davy meet Aunt Louise and her niece Melissa. Aunt Louise wants to support the two financially; Pete keeps an eye on Melissa.

When Herbie causes a stir on the ship, Captain Blythe lets him throw him into the sea. Paco, who christened the Beetle “Ocho” ( Spanish for “eight”, the checksum of the number 53 on Herbie's bonnet), is heartbroken.

In Panama Paco finds Herbie, rusted by the sea water. The men who help Paco pull Herbie out of the water try to steal the beetle; However, Herbie and Paco are able to flee. A little later, Shepard and Prindle track down the boy. It turns out that Paco accidentally gave the film with the photos to Pete and Davy. Shepard and Prindle demand the film back from Paco; otherwise they would destroy Herbie. Paco steals Pete and Davy's wallet again and meets Aunt Louise and Captain Blythe on his escape. Herbie and his passengers end up in a bullring in the middle of a bullfight; Prindle is hot on their heels.

Aunt Louise and Captain Blythe meet Pete, Davy and Melissa. Together they go looking for Paco and Herbie. Prindle and his people kidnap Paco and use the film to find the hiding place of the Inca treasure. After Herbie and his friends have found Paco, they manage to arrest Prindle and Shepard together.

Reviews

"Fourth part of the series about the 'great Beetle', only moderately staged and without any special ideas. Only the small vehicle still has a lot to offer. "

Others

The ship shown in the film is the Sun Princess , which entered service in 1972 .
