John Vernon (actor)

John Keith Vernon (born February 24, 1932 in Zehner , Saskatchewan , † February 1, 2005 in Los Angeles , California ), actually Adolphus Raymondus Vernon Agopsowicz, was a Canadian actor .

Life

After a classical acting training at the School of Fine Arts in Banff and the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art in London , Vernon returned to Canada, where he worked at various theaters and at the Canadian broadcaster CBC .

After minor roles in the television series The Forest Rangers in the early 1960s, he became known to a larger audience through the CBC series Wojeck, in which he played a coroner with a keen sense of crime. The series is considered to be the forerunner of the later American series Quincy .

In the late 1960s he dropped out of the series, moved to Hollywood and took on minor roles in feature films, but appearances in television series predominated over the course of his career. He later took on speaking roles in cartoons and computer games . He became better known in the United States in 1978 when he played the role of college director in the comedy I believe a horse will kick me .

John Vernon was married to Nancy West. He is the father of Chris Vernon, Nan Vernon, and actress Kate Vernon .
