The Blood of Others (AKA: Le Sang des autres ) is a film drama of Claude Chabrol from the year 1984 . The screenplay by Brian Moore is based on the novel of the same name by Simone de Beauvoir from 1945. Jodie Foster played the main role .

action

The American Hélène met the communist Jean in Paris in 1938 . Hélène writes love letters to Jean, which Jean does not answer. He tells Hélène during a meeting that he does not want to encourage her. Later, Hélène becomes pregnant by Jean, but she aborts the womb.

After the start of the Second World War , Jean becomes a soldier and is taken prisoner . The entrepreneur Bergman comes to Paris. He falls in love with Hélène, who in turn continues to love Jean and obtains his release. Bergman lures Hélène with promises to give her a career in the fashion world. Jean joins the Resistance .

The resistance fighters accuse Hélène of collaborating with the Germans; to prove her innocence, she takes part in an attack against the occupiers.

Reviews

The film service wrote that the "very soulful" film has an "extremely simple plot" and that it maintains a balance between "sentiment and humor". It is “not a great work by Chabrol,” he said, “because of the atmosphere, convincing dialogues and the scenic implementation”.

Cinema magazine wrote that the "star-studded miniseries with unexpectedly clumsy dialogues" disappoints. The film is "a poor melodrama despite big names".
