Michael Ontkean

Michael Ontkean (* 24. January 1946 in Vancouver , British Columbia as Michael Leonard Ontkean ) is a Canadian actor . He was best known for his role as sheriff in Twin Peaks .

Life and accomplishments

Ontkean played in the television series Hawkeye and the Last of the Mohicans as a child . He graduated from St. Michael's College School in Toronto and in 1970 the University of New Hampshire .

Ontkean played in several television series , including from 1972 to 1976 in the series California Cops - New in Action . Ontkean appeared in the horror film Horror-Attack (1972) alongside Orson Welles , in the comedy Slap Shot (1977) alongside Paul Newman . In the film drama Voices of Love (1979) he took on one of the leading roles alongside Amy Irving , as well as in the drama Making Love (1982), in which Kate Jackson played alongside Ontkean . In the French drama The Blood of Others (1984) he played one of the leading roles alongside Jodie Foster and Sam Neill .

Ontkean played the role of Bill Hart , the father of David Hart , played by Neil Patrick Harris in the drama Clara's Secret (1988) with Whoopi Goldberg . For his leading role in the film drama Bye Bye Blues (1989) he was nominated for the Genie Award in 1990. In the series Twin Peaks he played the role of Sheriff Harry S. Truman from 1990 to 1991 , for which he was nominated in 1991 for the Soap Opera Digest Award . Several leading roles followed, including the thriller Im Netz der Lügen (1992) and the award-winning drama Jay and the Ape Gang (1998). In 2011 he played a small role in the feature film The Descendants - Family and Other Matters before retiring into private life.

Ontkean married twice, most recently to actress Jamie Smith-Jackson, with whom he has two children.
