action
In the near future, a deadly epidemic will infect people in West Berlin. Some commit suicide to save themselves. The media reports are apparently unusual propaganda. Nobody knows what to do or how to save themselves, except for a policeman who suspects that the suicides are really the victims of some madman. His research leads him to a beautiful, enigmatic woman. He learns that the owner of the media group is driving people to suicide with the help of women and the media because he needs their energy as a reserve of strength for his steely heart. At the last moment, mass suicide can be prevented.
background
The film was produced by NEF Diffusion Film Vertriebs GmbH (Munich), Cléa Productions (Paris), Ellepi Films SrI (Rome) and ZDF (Mainz).
reception
The film-dienst described the film as an "unsuccessful homage to Fritz Lang and his 'Mabuse' cycle". Dr. M is a "lifeless film that turns the subjects of self-destruction and mass suggestion into nothing more than a robber pistol".
