Jean-François Balmer (born April 18, 1946 in Valangin ) is a French - Swiss theater and film actor who mainly works in France.

Life

Balmer initially did various odd jobs, including working as a waiter and mountain guide. He studied economics at the École supérieure de commerce in Neuchâtel and from 1969 to 1973 acting with Isabelle Adjani and Jacques Villeret at the Conservatoire national supérieur d'art dramatique in Paris . Small roles in film and television followed in the 1970s; He made his screen debut in 1973 in command RAS by Yves Boisset , where he stood with his former classmates Jacques Weber on camera. Balmer also made his theatrical debut under Weber, playing Scapin's pranks under his direction in 1973 .

In the 1988 television series Spionin Against Will Balmer starred as Colonel Malone; in the multi-part series The French Revolution , he took over the role of King Louis XVI in 1989 . Balmer has appeared in more than 120 films. He also plays theater regularly. He has been nominated three times for a Molière for Best Actor : 1997 for his role in Le faiseur , 2001 for Novecento and 2011 for Henri IV, le bien aimé . Balmer was made a Knight of the Legion of Honor and Commander des Arts et Lettres in 2004.

Balmer has been married to the actress and production designer Françoise Petit since 1987 .
