Sy Bartlett

Sy Bartlett (born July 10, 1900 in Nikolayev , Cherson Governorate , Russian Empire (now in Ukraine ), † May 29, 1978 in Hollywood , California ) was an American screenwriter and film producer of Ukrainian origin.

Live and act

Sy Bartlett was born as Sacha Baraniev in 1900 in what is now the Ukraine. His parents emigrated with him to America in 1904 and settled in Chicago . There he attended Northwestern University and a journalism school.

He initially worked as a newspaper reporter until he went to Hollywood as a screenwriter. He got his first job in 1933 at RKO Studios , for which he wrote several scripts until 1969. During this time he also worked as a film producer and founded Melville Productions together with Gregory Peck in 1956 .

Bartlett was a bomber pilot during World War II . After the war he also worked as a screenwriter for 20th Century Fox . He was married three times to actresses ( Alice White , Ellen Drew and Patricia Owens ).

Bartlett died in Hollywood on May 29, 1978 of cancer .
