Friedrich Strack

Friedrich Strack , also Chr. Friedrich Leberecht Strack (born May 9, 1781 in Roßleben Monastery ; † July 25, 1852 in Bremen ) was a German pedagogue , professor in Bremen, Protestant hymn poet and naturalist.

Life

Strack attended the Roßleben monastery school , studied theology and philosophy at the University of Leipzig and received a master's degree and a Dr. phil. PhD . He initially worked as a preacher. He received his further educational training in Halle (Saale) . From 1806 he worked as a teacher in Halle, from 1810 in Wertheim am Main and in 1814 at the grammar school in Düsseldorf .

In 1817 he was appointed head of the preschool in Eschenhof an der Domsheide in Bremen, a department of the newly founded secondary school in Bremen . He wrote several educational writings and brought out two volumes of poetry. Bremen later appointed him professor. He was very interested in science topics. He also worked as a translator of writings by Aristotle and Pliny the Younger . In 1818 he had a gymnasium set up for the students. A stone drawing by RFC Suhrlandt was made in 1823.

A collection of sacred poems, which he entitled: Eloah. Gave elevations of the heart to God in a series of chants and metrical prayers ; it first appeared in 1814 (Frankfurt a. M. bei Brönner) and then in six subsequent editions. In 1820 he became a member of the Leopoldina .

The German translation of Pliny the Elder's natural history, which Strack was still concerned with during his lifetime, was posthumously published between 1853 and 1855 by his son Max Ernst Dietrich Lebrecht (born March 7, 1806 in Düsseldorf ; † January 11, 1883 in Berlin ). published in revised form (3 vols.).
