Jack Cummings

Jack Cummings (born February 16, 1900 in New Brunswick , Canada , † April 28, 1989 in Los Angeles , California , USA) was an American film producer.

Life

Jack Cummings was the nephew of MGM boss Louis B. Mayer . Despite this family connection, Cummings first worked as a simple office worker. Over time, he worked his way up the corporate ladder to head the studio's short film department. Here he produced and directed a number of comedies (including with The Three Stooges ) and documentaries. From 1934 he also produced full-length feature films. Cummings was responsible for some of the most famous MGM musicals.

Cummings was married to Betty Kern, the daughter of the composer Jerome David Kern . He filmed his father-in-law's musical Roberta in 1952 under the title Lovely to Look at . By 1964 he was involved in the production of 38 feature films. This was followed by a twelve-year hiatus until he took over production for Pipe Dreams for the last time in 1976 .

Awards

In 1955 Jack Cummings received the Oscar for Best Picture as the producer of A Bride for Seven Brothers . A year earlier he was awarded an honorary Golden Globe .
