The Bad Doberan district was a district in the Rostock district in the GDR . From May 17, 1990, it continued as the Bad Doberan district . Today his area belongs to the Rostock district in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania . The seat of the district administration was in Bad Doberan .

The coastal section of the Bad Doberan district stretches from the Wustrow peninsula, which is used for military purposes, with the Salzhaff behind it, over the Bukspitze and the partly flat, partly steep compensation coast and the “Heiligen Damm”, whose scree wall closes off the Conventer See nature reserve a few kilometers from the Warnow estuary . The forest-covered terminal moraine of the cooling stands out from the surrounding area, reaching a maximum of 129.7 m above sea level. NN in Diedrichshagener Berg and extends over 20 km in length in the north of the district. The south of the district is characterized by a hilly ground moraine landscape (up to 110 m above sea level), which includes numerous small lakes and ponds.

The area of the district was 550 km². That was 7.8% of the area of the Rostock district.
The population was around 49,700 in 1985. That was 5.5% of the district's population. The population density was 90 inhabitants per km².

The coastal district of Bad Doberan bordered on the southwest by the county Wismar country , in the southeast on the circle Bützow and to the east by the county Rostock-country as well as (to a few hundred meters) to the urban district of Rostock .
history
The Mecklenburg district was newly formed from parts of the former Wismar and Rostock districts as part of the administrative reform on July 25, 1952 and belonged to the Rostock district. The district came to the newly founded state of Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania on October 3, 1990 within the accession area to the Federal Republic of Germany . Economy and Infrastructure
The Bad Doberan district was shaped by agriculture and tourism . In Kröpelin there was a dairy cattle facility with over 2000 cows, in Neubukow there was a one million animal laying hen farm in the form of a KIM and in Bad Doberan there was a large pig fattening facility (6000 animals). Tourism played the main role in the Baltic seaside resorts of Kühlungsborn , Rerik , Heiligendamm (the oldest German seaside resort) and Nienhagen .
The main traffic axes in the district were trunk road 105 (Wismar – Rostock) and the parallel railway line. The Bäderbahn Molli , a 900 mm narrow-gauge railway that runs from Bad Doberan to Kühlungsborn, was and is very popular .

License Plate
Motor vehicles (with the exception of motorcycles) and trailers were assigned three-letter distinctive signs starting with the pair of letters AA from around 1974 to the end of 1990 . The last number plate series used for motorcycles was AX 00-01 to AX 50-00 .
At the beginning of 1991 the district received the distinguishing mark DBR .
