The Putbus district in the Rostock district

The Putbus district was a district on the island of Rügen in the Rostock district of the GDR from 1952 to 1955 .

history

After the end of the Second World War , the district of Rügen , which included the island of Rügen , fell into the Soviet occupation zone and was incorporated into the state of Mecklenburg . On July 25, 1952, a comprehensive district reform took place in the GDR , in which, among other things, the states lost their importance and new districts were formed. The two new districts Putbus and Bergen were formed from the area of the old district of Rügen .

As the division of the island of Rügen into two districts quickly proved to be inexpedient, the districts of Bergen and Putbus were reunited in the district of Rügen on January 1, 1956 .
