Zudar is the name of a strongly structured peninsula, about 18 km² in size, belonging to the island of Rügen and the locality and former municipality located on the peninsula.

The peninsula lies between the Schoritzer Wiek , the Rügischer Bodden (the northern part of the Greifswalder Bodden ) and the southwestern entrance of the Strelasund .

At its narrowest point, the peninsula is 900 meters wide, and in the east of the peninsula is, with a height of 25  m above sea level. NN , her highest point. The southernmost point of Rügen, the Palmer Ort, is located on the Zudar .

history

The municipality of Zudar, located on the peninsula, was independent until June 12, 2004, before it was incorporated into the city of Garz . This also applies to the former Zudar districts of Freudenberg, Fossberg, Glewitz, Grabow, Losentitz, Maltzien, Poppelvitz and Zicker.

In 1854 Max Hofmeier , who later became a gynecologist and rector of the University of Würzburg , was born on the Zudar.

The Glewitz ferry - after the Rügen Bridge and the Rügen Dam, is the third most important Strelasund crossing between Rügen and the mainland - runs between Stahlbrode and the Zudar.
