The St. Laurentius Church is a church from the 14th century. It is located on the Zudar peninsula belonging to Rügen .

history

The church was first mentioned in 1318. Before 1370 it was a pilgrimage church because it had a "miraculous" image of Mary. The pilgrimages, however, ended with the sinking of a pilgrim ship in 1372, during which the pilgrims drowned. In 1665 the wooden church tower was completed and in 1724 it was given a Welsche dome as a roof . In 1959, during repair work on the roof and the wooden cladding of the tower, the oak shingle roof was replaced by slate panels. The interior was colored in 1982. When the tower roof was repaired in 1991, it was covered with copper, and the cock and ball were gilded. In 1992/1993 the roof structure of the nave was renovated and re-covered; the sacristy was covered with originally hand-painted beaver tails.

description

The Gothic church has a nave and choir with a round triumphal arch . The low vault was drawn in later; it doesn't quite match the window seat. There is a round-arched exhibition niche under the north-eastern window.
