history

The area was part of the Principality of Rügen until 1326 and then the Duchy of Pomerania .
With the Peace of Westphalia in 1648, Rügen and thus also the town of Zirkow came under Swedish rule after the town had previously belonged to the Duchy of Pomerania . In 1815 the municipality and Western Pomerania became part of the Prussian province of Pomerania .
Since 1818, Zirkow belonged to the district of Rügen . It was part of the Putbus district only from 1952 to 1955 . The community then belonged to the Rügen district in the Rostock district until 1990 and became part of the state of Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania in the same year. The district of Rügen, which has been called this again since 1990, was merged in 2011 in the district of Vorpommern-Rügen.
Nistelitz was first mentioned in a document in 1318. A Slavic settlement from the 10th to 13th centuries was discovered in 1993. The property or parts of the property were u. a. owned by the von Putbus family (until 1326 and 1588–1694 and in the 18th century until 1945), the Bergen monastery and the land as domanial property (from around 1532 and from 1694 to the 18th century). The renovated manor house has been preserved.
