history

Zarrendorf is of Slavic origin. The name comes from the Slavic locator Carnek and means place of Čarnek . The place was first mentioned in 1334 in a document from a Doberan monk and procurator Nikolaus Sarnestorp. Since the dissolution of the Principality of Rügen , the place belonged to the Duchy of Pomerania . The Reformation was introduced here in 1534 and from 1536 Zarrendorf became an official village.

With the Peace of Westphalia of 1648, Western Pomerania and thus Zarrendorf came under Swedish rule and in 1815 the place with New Western Pomerania came to the Prussian province of Pomerania . In 1778 the captain von Born and the shepherd Jürgen Knuth claim against the lawyer von Eggebrecht because of the money used to rebuild the village of Zarrendorf, which was destroyed by fire. How badly Zarrendorf was destroyed cannot yet be proven. In 1904 the place was connected to the telephone network of the German Reich . Between 1919 and 1922 a road was built from Zarrendorf via Wendorf to Voigdehagen . On November 18, 1924, the Zarrendorf volunteer fire department was founded. The two communities Alt Zarrendorf and Neu Zarrendorf were merged in 1934/35 to form the community Zarrendorf. At that time the land was administered and leased by the Stralsund monastery of the Holy Spirit. After 1945, the tenants were expropriated as part of the land reform in the Soviet occupation zone and given to the agricultural production cooperatives of the later GDR, which then managed the fields and arable land.

Zarrendorf was part of the Grimmen district until 1952 and then belonged to the Grimmen district in the Rostock district until 1994 . Since 1990 the place belongs to the state of Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania. The community belonged to the dissolved office Kronskamp until January 1, 2004 . In 2005 an ostrich farm was opened in the place.
