Location of Voigdehagen in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania

Voigdehagen is a district in the south of the Hanseatic city of Stralsund in the district of Vorpommern-Rügen in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern .

The place with currently 74 inhabitants is about 5 km from the historic center of Stralsund. It was incorporated into the city of Stralsund in 1928, as were numerous other former rural villages. Voigdehagen was founded in 1282 and celebrated its 700th anniversary in 1982. The history of the small district in the south of Stralsund is very extensive and ecclesiastically shaped, because the Voigdehäger Church was the "Mater" (mother church) of the Stralsund parish churches for centuries.

history

The history of Voigdehagen is very comprehensively documented in the Stralsund city archive. Many writings come from documents (most of them from the Pomeranian document book ), others from the Heilgeistkloster , which leased many properties in Voigdehagen and its surroundings over the centuries.

middle Ages

Since the end of the 13th century, today's Voigdehagens area has belonged to the Principality of Rügen and here its history is linked to the new Stralow settlement founded in 1234 (called Stralesund from 1240).

In the 13th century, the city expanded its land holdings well beyond the former borders of the Feldmark. In 1290 the two villages Voigdehagen and Lüdershagen were acquired. The city had Witzlaw I confirm ownership of the property again in writing and also granted the right to acquire property outside the city walls in the future. In 1301 the village of Vogelsang came into municipal possession, in 1302 Lüssow. In 1306 Stralsund acquired pasture land on the Zingst, in 1321 the villages Devin , Teschenhagen, Zitterpenningshagen , Wendorf , Lützow, Langendorf and Kedingshagen.

On October 16, 1289, Prince Wizlaw II of Rügen transferred the ownership of the goods to the squire Alexander von Rügen at the request of the Stralsund City Council. Weye in Voigdehagen with all accessories and the high and low jurisdiction and forbade any imitation.

Prince Wizlaw II of Rügen sold on August 29, 1290 with the consent of his son Wizlaw III . the city of Stralsund, the property of their goods, in Voigdehagen from the sea where the water ends, which drives 2 mills, and from the border of the city, where the road to the village leads to the pond and this itself. Likewise the property of the village of Lüdershagen, both what she bought there from Rolef Plotze and what she will buy from the prince's cleric, Nicolaus, and his brother Martin. Prince Wizlaw II of Rügen gave the city of Stralsund the ownership of all goods in Voigdehagen with all accessories and the high and low courts on October 16, 1290.

On April 4, 1291 Prince Wizlaw II of Rügen sold with the consent of his son Wizlaw III. the city of Stralsund the property of all waters in its field marrow , allowed it to damming the princely mill pond up to the sign that he had affixed with the monks of Neuenkamp, and the fishing in it, but also for him when he is in the city , allows her to set up two mills at the pond with the delivery of 10 Drömt barley, 10 Drömt oats and 10 Drömt grain from each grinding, but without grinding treasure annually. The pond with the ditches led over the mill of the monastery in Garbodenhagen and Kordshagen she is allowed to divert to the princely pond near the city and build 2 windmills, the lake in Voigdehagen she can divert to the urban area.

On June 23, 1303 Otto Slore, ( Pleban of the city of Stralsund and in Voigdehagen) concluded a settlement with the city about the damming of the water flowing over the mill in Voigdehagen . The council was thus able to dump the water on the adjacent lands of the church for the benefit of the city. In return, the church was allocated two free mornings. On September 8, 1303, the brothers Johann and Bertold Citterpennigk then sold their Meat and Freestyle meal to the city of Stralsund at the Voigdehägener Mühle. About 10 years later, on March 1, 1314 Prince Wizlaw III . von Rügen made peace with his city of Stralsund and gave it all the rights and freedoms that the city of Rostock had received from Borwin (Prince of Mecklenburg) and his sons Heinrich and Nicolaus, also "with the whole eghendom" over the city and everyone within its borders . On May 10, 1321, Prince Wizlaw III confirmed. the city of Stralsund their privileges and their possessions in the villages of Devin , Teschenhagen, Zitterpenningshagen , Voigdehagen, Wendorf , Lüdershagen, Vogelsang, Lüssow, Langendorf and Kedingshagen. The privileges were the same as in previous confirmations.

Since March 23, 1401, the pastor in Voigdehagen had the right to clean his church and the branches and cemeteries, if they were desecrated, himself or through a suitable priest .

Modern times

Between 1558 and 1564, the superintendent Jakob Runge was awarded the theological doctorate in the presence of Philipp Melanchton. Negotiations continued over public absolution and other theological problems. A visitation in Voigdehagen, Pütte, Prohn and Mohrdorf also took place.

17th century

The most important event of this century was certainly the battle of Voigdehagen and the siege of Stralsund by Wallenstein . The city won the battle and still celebrates this event today with the so-called Wallenstein Days .

From 1648 onwards the destroyed villages Voigdehagen, Zitterhagen (now: Zitterpenningshagen ), Wendorf and Ahrendsee were rebuilt , which were badly damaged by the consequences of the Thirty Years' War (1618–1648). In the period from 1621 to 1637 there was a purchase agreement between the city of Stralsund and Maria Andrea, widow of Jacob Wessel, for the Wesselsche house on the Alter Markt . Furthermore, the Nisdorf estate is leased to Franz Cornelius, Jacob Harcken, Magnus Schadeloken, Cornelius Frantzen, Danckwart Frantzen, Johann Clausen and Dinnies Holsten.

18th century

There were repeated complaints from pastors and tenants in Voigdehagen. Between 1721 and 1740, the pastor Johann Theophil Weigel from Voigdehagen brought a lawsuit and appeals against Carl Albert Richter, leaseholder of Andershof , and provisional and administrator of the Heilgeistkloster zu Stralsund because of reducing parish justice and parish boundaries. Between 1732 and 1738 the Zitterpenningshagen and Voigdehagen farms were leased to Karl Albert Richter and Paul Döhn respectively.

Around 1736/1737 the pastor Johann Theophil Weigel zu Voigdehagen filed a lawsuit against the provisional and administrators of the monastery of the Holy Spirit in Stralsund because of violent acts committed by the tenant Paul Döhn zu Voigdehagen. How the dispute ended cannot be understood. Ultimately, however, the Voigdehagen and Zitterpenningshagen farms were again leased to Paul Döhn from 1738 to 1754.

Between 1745 and 1762 there were negotiations with the tenant Paul Döhn zu Andershof and Voigdehagen because of the cattle disease and the contract extension until 1764, as well as the transfer of the contract to NP Schultz. In 1759/1760 the tenant Paul Döhn received compensation for war damage suffered.

In the years 1776/1777 there should be disputes between the farmers in Voigdehagen, with the tenant Bogislaw Schulz, over court services. The disputes were carried to the city council of Stralsund and were ultimately settled. In 1790 the captain von Born zu Zarrendorf laid a path across the heath from Wendorf and Voigdehagen for his peat loads. The peat was in the area of Aspen Penning Hagen very widespread and Voigdehagen. The peat was used as fuel on the one hand, and as fertilizer on the other.

At the end of the 18th century , a hereditary burial for the castle captain von Reichenbach was set in the Voigdehäger cemetery . In 1800 the miller Diedrich Meinke from Voigdehagen complained about the ban on selling groats in Stralsund. (Miller's trade) The miller Bartholomäus Zimmermann asked the city to prohibit the sale of groats, on markets and on bridges by foreign groats dealers. This led to a lawsuit against the miller Johann Christian Winter from Voigdehagen for selling grits on the Stralsund market.

19th century

For the middle of the 19th century , the files show numerous new buildings in Voigdehagen: such as the construction of a new massive residential building, a new barn, a new bakery, cottages, a carriage shed and stables. There were also some new buildings and extensions on the Voigdehagen estate. In the 19th century the place underwent extensive construction work and was connected to the railway network of the former German Empire . Numerous areas were given to the Reichsbahn for the construction of the so-called Berlin Northern Railway . The station was shut down at the end of the 1990s and the old waiting hall was demolished.

In 1890/1891 the construction of a toilet building for the sexton and school house in Voigdehagen was realized.

In 1891 the old pastor's house in Voigdehagen was also torn down, and many items were auctioned off. In the same year a severe cold spell hit Voigdehagen on the coast. There was not insignificant frost damage. Potatoes froze to death, especially at the town paddock, in Voigdehagen and Zarrendorf . The farmers suffered massive crop failures.

The sacristy of the Voigdehäger church also dates from the 19th century. The extension is located on the north side of the church and is meanwhile very dilapidated and needs renovation. Due to the severe dilapidation, no objects are now kept in the sacristy (see Voigdehäger Church ).

20th century

From 1917 onwards, a water cooperative was set up to ameliorate meadows between Voigdehagen and Wendorf . Between 1919 and 1922, a road from Zarrendorf via Wendorf to Voigdehagen was built, as can be seen from the history in the Stralsund city archive.

1928 was an important year in Voigdehagen. The estate districts of Voigdehagen, Devin , Andershof and Grünhufe were dissolved and the school districts were incorporated into Stralsund . Voigdehagen lost its independence at this time and has been a district of the Hanseatic city of Stralsund ever since .

1940–1942 there was a lawsuit against the farmer Steege for unlawful relocation of boundary stones, for further exploitation of the gravel pit (the mining of gravel largely determined the image of Voigdehagen and Zitterpenningshagen in the last 100 years). It is not yet possible to say what came out of the lawsuit.

Until the end of the Second World War, the manor house in Voigdehagen was still owned by the Mohr family, who had to flee at the end of the Second World War . The land was expropriated and later transferred to the Agricultural Production Cooperative (LPG for short). So far nothing is known about the family's whereabouts. -> See land reform in the Soviet occupation zone from 1945

The Voigdehäger school was initially closed from 1945 and later demolished. The school-age children from Voigdehagen had to move to schools in Andershof , Stralsund, or Steinhagen.

Between 1946 and 1953 land reform land was distributed and cultivated in Voigdehagen and finally on August 18, 1958, the LPG Freiheit was founded in Voigdehagen.

21st century

Since 2000, the Buchholz organ has also been used again after a 10-year absence. Between 2003 and 2006 there was another general overhaul by the organ building and restoration workshop Rainer Wolter from Dresden . The grave chapel of the Wulffcrona family was demolished (due to dilapidation)

In 2011 the weir at Voigdehäger pond was renovated and in 2012 Pastor Winfried Wenzel took over the Heilgeist-Voigdehagen parish, who still looks after it to this day.

The church

-> Main article Church Voigdehagen

The origins of the Voigdehäger Church go back well into the 13th century . Until the 18th century it was the mother church of the Stralsund churches. Adjacent to the church is a historic old cemetery, where the Wulfcrona family, an important wine merchant family from Stralsund, is buried. The burial chapel was demolished a few years ago because it was in disrepair. Services are rarely held in the small church, it is only open for Thanksgiving , Reformation Day and Christmas .

The sea

View over the Voigdehäger pond

An old cobblestone street runs right through the village and connects Voigdehagen with Andershof. The road itself is also an old dam that connects the Voigdehäger pond in the north and the Bauernteich in the south of the village. The Bauernteich, like the Voigdehäger pond, was formed in the Middle Ages by damming. The ponds are fed by the Zitterbäk brook , which also flows past Zitterpenningshagen .

The lake is rich in freshwater fish , which is why it is also used by the Stralsund fishing club. Well-known fish are the perch and pike , but lead, rudd and bleak can also be found here. The Voigdehäger pond has an area of 3.23 ha and a maximum depth of 2 m.

The station

Until the beginning of the 1990s Voigdehagen still had a connection to the rail network with a stop. The railway line belonged to the so-called Berlin Northern Railway , which connected the capital with the Hanseatic city of Stralsund. The station building has been renovated in recent years and is now inhabited again. However, the old waiting hall was demolished. Only a few years ago the level crossing was also renovated by Deutsche Bahn.
