history
Schlemmin is of Slavic origin. In the Middle Ages, there was a moated castle on the site of the current castle. The community suffered badly during the Thirty Years' War . With the Peace of Westphalia in 1648, Western Pomerania and thus Schlemmin came under Swedish rule. In 1815 the municipality and Western Pomerania became part of the Prussian province of Pomerania .
The noble family von Thun, who immigrated from Lüneburg in the 14th century, settled here in 1320 and worked for almost 600 years without interruption. The Schlemminer line became extinct in the male line in 1862 after the death of Wilhelm Ulrich von Thun . By marrying his daughters Schlemmin came into the possession of the Count of Solms-Rödelheim and Assenheim and in further succession to the Count of Stolberg -Wernigerode (1892-1945). The neo-Gothic castle dates from 1850. At the end of 1944/45 the castle served as a military hospital, after the war as refugee accommodation and later as a guest house for the LPG . Today there is a hotel in it.
