history

The area was part of the Principality of Rügen until 1326 and then the Duchy of Pomerania . With the Peace of Westphalia in 1648, Rügen became part of Swedish Pomerania and in 1815 New Western Pomerania became the Prussian province of Pomerania .

Since 1818 Schaprode belonged to the district or district of Rügen , from 1952 to 1955 to the district of Bergen , then until 1990 to the district of Rügen in the Rostock district , since 1990 again to the district of Rügen and since 2011 to the district of Vorpommern-Rügen.

Granskevitz:

The manor with the castle was originally owned by the von Platen family . The manor house was rebuilt and expanded in 1765 and in the 19th century; Components date from 1570. The estate was owned by Karl von Schultz until 1945. In 1911 he founded the Nordsaat seed breeding company. Today the estate is again owned by Nordsaat Saatzucht GmbH .

Poggenhof:

The estate was owned by the von Platen family (from 1420), then by the Hiddensee monastery (from 1456), then by the von Lotzow (from 1732), von Nimpsch (18th century) and again von Platen (1842–1945) families . The manor house dates from the 2nd half of the 19th century.

View of Schaprode

Schaprode:

Schaprode was first mentioned in a document in 1193. Presumably there was a Slavic prince seat near Schaprode.

The Johanneskirche is a Gothic brick building from the 15th century. The interior of the building is designed with mostly baroque furnishings. In the center of the village are thatched-roof fishermen's cottages , some of which have historic carved front doors. There are sayings on many walls - both in standard German and in the local flat variant .

Litter:

Landowners were u. a. the families von der Osten (early period), von Platen (from the 1st half of the 18th century), von Lotzow (from 1749), von Bohlen (from 1757) and Johannes Volkmann (from the beginning of the 20th century to 1945). The core of the manor house dates from the 18th century; it was rebuilt in 1871 and partially increased.

Udars:

Udars was mentioned in a document in the early 14th century. Landowners were u. a. the families von Pentz (before 1408), von Barnekow and until the Reformation the monastery Hiddensee . After that it was the domain of the Duke of Pomerania until 1657 and then again the estate of the von Wolfrad (until 1734), von Usedom (until about 1901), Kroos (until 1926) and Karl von Schultz (until 1945) families . The unrenovated manor house probably dates from after 1735 (other source 1660) with older remains. From 1945 to 1996 it was a residential building. The forest park was created around 1800.

Insel Öhe (living space ) is privately owned by an agricultural company. It can only be reached by private ferry connections.

The coat of arms was designed by Gerhard Koggelmann from Sagard . It was approved on November 9, 1999 by the Ministry of the Interior and registered under the number 197 of the coat of arms of Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania.

flag

The flag was approved by the Home Office on January 21, 2000.

The flag of the municipality is made of green cloth, covered with a white, continuous blue cross. The height of the cross arms is one third and that of the hem is one twentieth the height of the flag cloth. In the middle of the flag, above everything, is the municipal coat of arms, which takes up two thirds of the height of the flag. The relation of the height of the flag cloth to the length is like 3: 5.

The flag was designed by the heraldist Gerhard Koggelmann .

port

traffic

  • Port and Ferries:

The port of Schaprode, through which the main ferry traffic with Hiddensee runs, is important for the community and for the whole of Rügen . The port is the only year-round possibility for tourists and residents to reach the island; this is done by passenger ships and taxi boats. In addition, the Vitte cargo ferry runs via the Schaproder Hafen , on which supply vehicles get to Hiddensee. During their stay on the car-free island, most tourists park their vehicles in the port's parking lot. A separate branch of industry has developed here, which in addition to two public parking spaces includes several privately run parking spaces.

  • Bus:

The journey to Schaprode and Hiddensee is also several times a day with buses of the Verkehrsgesellschaft Vorpommern-Rügen (VVR) u. a. possible from Bergen auf Rügen train station or Stralsund train station . There is an additional bus connection in the winter months when the ferry service from Stralsund to Hiddensee is suspended. During this time, a bus line will be set up as a replacement ship service.
