About this picture

Born a. Darß ( Born auf [dem] Darß ) is a municipality in the district of Vorpommern-Rügen in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, Germany. It is a state-recognized resort and the official seat of the Darß / Fischland office , to which five other communities belong.

The municipality of Born a. Darß on the south coast of the Darß peninsula lies directly on the Vorpommersche Boddenlandschaft National Park . The sea bays of the Bodstedter Bodden and the Saaler Bodden spread out to the southeast and southwest of Born . In between - in the paddock - are the Neuendorfer Bülten , a chain of small, reed-covered islands. Almost the entire Darß peninsula with the northern tip, the Darßer Ort, belongs to the municipality . There is the branch of the German Oceanographic Museum in Stralsund, the Natureum Darßer Ort .

Neighboring communities to Born a. Darß are Prerow in the northeast, Wieck a. Darß in the east and Ahrenshoop in the southwest.

history

After belonging to the Duchy of Pomerania for centuries , the municipality belonged to Swedish Pomerania after the Thirty Years War . From 1715 to 1720 Born a. Darß to the Kingdom of Denmark until the end of the Great Northern War . With the advent of sailing ships, the population also increased. In addition to the simple dealerships , larger captains' houses were built. Unlike the neighboring community of Wieck, Born was not so badly affected by the decline of sailing in the 19th century, as agriculture was increasingly back on the agenda. Around 1930 you can see the first signs of tourism in Born.

To DDR -times one was in pioneer - camps built and maintained.

The community was part of the Franzburg-Barth district until 1952 and then belonged to the Ribnitz-Damgarten district in the Rostock district until 1994 . Born has belonged to the state of Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania since 1990.

The name is derived from the Slavic word bori , which means something like pine forest . This is intended to indicate the location of the community on the edge of the forest.

politics

coat of arms

The coat of arms was approved on February 14, 1992 by the Ministry of the Interior and registered under number 18 of the coat of arms of Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania.

The blue upper field is separated from the blue border with a narrow white line and contains a herald's image. It shows a white sea eagle in flight, pointing to the left and whose wings are parallel to the field dividing line. In the lower right white field there is a second herald's image in the form of a compass rose (gold / blue), underlaid with a blue circular line. In the center of the compass rose a red griffin, standing upright and pointing to the left, is shown. "

Events

The Borner Masked Ball was created 150 years ago when Borner seafarers brought the idea for this festival with them. On long winter evenings, masks and costumes are invented and made. On the evening of the ball not a word is spoken, because only after the unmasking should the others know who was hiding behind the disguise. There is an exhibition about it in the old Gutzmann school.

In 2007, Born was the venue for the Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania harvest festival , which took place on September 30th.

The Born-Ibenhorst youth hostel is located west of Born in the national park and also has a campsite area.

In addition to small harbors and jetties, the area around the community offers a well-developed network of cycling and hiking trails. Passenger ships run from Born to the Fischland communities, to Bodstedt and Barth .
