About this picture

Gransgebieth is a municipality in the south of the Vorpommern-Rügen district in the state of Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania and belongs to the Recknitz-Trebeltal district .

Geography and traffic

Gransebieth is located in a lowland, about eight kilometers southwest of Grimmen and about twelve kilometers southeast of Tribsees . The Trebel forms the northern border and the Ibitzgraben , which flows into the Trebel here, the western border of the municipality. The angle between the two watercourses at Zarrentin is wooded. There are no larger lakes in the municipality.

The A 20 , which runs through the municipality, can be reached via the Grimmen-West junction (approx. 5 km).

Districts

The districts of the municipality are:

  • Brönkow
  • Gransgebieth
  • Baggendorf church
  • Zarrentin

The community was part of the Grimmen district until 1952 and then belonged to the Grimmen district in the Rostock district until 1994 .

history

Gransebieth belonged to the Duchy of Pomerania until the 17th century . After the Thirty Years War until 1815, the area belonged to Swedish Pomerania and then to the Prussian province of Pomerania .

Kirch Baggendorf was settled by German settlers from the end of the 12th century. Baggendorf itself was first mentioned in a document in 1242. Presumably in the 13th century around 1240 the Cistercian monks built the church in Baggendorf from field stones and added the tower to it in the 14th or 15th century. In the 13th century, the knight Egertus Bekendorpe owned the manor, which the Bodinus family acquired in the 19th century. After 1945 the manor house housed the Russian commandant's office, then refugees and later also a sales point, and from 1972 the school.

Coat of arms, flag, official seal

The municipality has no officially approved national emblem, neither a coat of arms nor a flag . The official seal is the small state seal with the coat of arms of the region of Western Pomerania . It shows an erect griffin with a raised tail and the inscription "GEMEINDE GRANSEBIETH".
