history
The area was already settled in the Stone Age, as evidenced by Stone Age finds. The place names probably come from the place founders "Godeke", "Marten" or the "Martinus" or "Spolder", which indicates a log splitter. They are early German foundations during the German colonization in the east.
Since 1318 the places belonged to the Divitz rule. During the Thirty Years' War Divitz, Spoldershagen, Martenshagen and Gäthkenhagen were almost completely destroyed.
The area belonged to the Duchy of Pomerania until the end of the Thirty Years War . After the Peace of Westphalia until 1815 it belonged to Swedish Pomerania and then to the Prussian province of Pomerania . It was part of the Stralsund district until 1952 and then to the Ribnitz-Damgarten district in the Rostock district until 1994 .
The municipality was formed by the merger of the municipalities Divitz and Spoldershagen on June 13, 1999. Until January 1, 2005, the community was part of the Barth-Land office .
Divitz
The Slavic foundation of Divitz was first mentioned in documents from the Rügan prince Wizlaw .
Divitz Castle was built after 1200 . Divitz Castle is a moated castle with a wide moat. This castle was one of many that was built along the border between Pomerania and Mecklenburg. The von Divitz family of the same name was here in feudal ownership until the 14th century, when it died out. After brief ownership by the Moltke and Vitzen families, the von Krackewitz family bought the estate in 1480. When this died out in 1625 with Bogislaw von Krackewitz, the estate fell back as a settled fief, i.e. H. to the Duke. He gave it to his chancellor Philipp von Horn in 1626, who bequeathed it to his grandson, Count Johannes Lilienstedt (Swedish representative). Then it came through inheritance to the von Krassow family, who in 1842 established a Fideikommiß on Divitz with the other pertinances - Frauendorf, Wobbelkow and Martenshagen. Later the ownership of 500 hectares went to the von der Groeben family, the last owner in 1945 was Siegfried Graf von der Groeben.
