About this picture

Pruchten is a municipality in the west of the Vorpommern-Rügen district. Until January 1, 2005, the community was part of the Barth Land Office and has been part of the Barth Office since then .

Geography and traffic

The place Pruchten - consisting of the districts Pruchten and Bresewitz - is about 2–4 kilometers north of Barth in the northernmost tip of the Barth office. The community lies between the Barther Strom and the Barther Bodden in the east and the Bodstedter Bodden in the west at the transition from the mainland to the Zingst peninsula . Part of the municipal area belongs to the Vorpommersche Boddenlandschaft National Park . Landstrasse 21 leads from Barth to Zingst through Pruchten and Bresewitz. In the northern part, the Meiningen Bridge crosses the Meiningen Stream to the Zingst Peninsula. Until the Second World War, the Darßbahn also ran through the town to Zingst and Prerow . This was dismantled after the Second World War. The tracks up to the Bresewitz district were relocated in the 1960s and used as a marshalling yard for the National People's Army until 1990 .

Districts

  • Bresewitz: The district of Bresewitz is about 2 km north of Pruchten on a peninsula in front of the Zingst. The incorporation of Bresewitz to Pruchten took place in 1974 on state instructions from the GDR.
  • Pruchten: The district of Pruchten is located south of Bresewitz on the mainland about 2.5 km northwest of the city of Barth.

history

Pruchten was first mentioned in 1278 and Bresewitz in 1302. Both places are of Slavic origin. The places suffered badly during the Thirty Years' War . With the Peace of Westphalia of 1648, Western Pomerania and thus also the towns of Pruchten and Bresewitz (Preschewitz) came under Swedish rule. In 1815 the communities and Western Pomerania came to the Prussian province of Pomerania . In 1910 the railway line from Barth to Prerow was opened with stations in Pruchten and Bresewitz. Before that there was only one ferry connection from Bresewitz to Zingst (Timmenort) via the shallow water of Fitt.

The communities of Pruchten and Bresewitz were part of the Franzburg-Barth district until 1952 and, after the incorporation of Bresewitz to Pruchten, belonged to the Ribnitz-Damgarten district in the Rostock district until 1994 . Since 1994 Pruchten has belonged to the district of North Western Pomerania, since 2011 to the district of Western Pomerania-Rügen in the state of Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania.

During the GDR era, Volkswerft Stralsund built and maintained a company holiday camp for the children of its employees in Pruchten, today this camp is the “Naturcamp Pruchten”, a campsite in the north-west of the town. In the direction of Gutglück, a large holiday property was built by the GDR Ministry for State Security in the 1980s.

Coat of arms, flag, official seal

The municipality has no officially approved national emblem, neither a coat of arms nor a flag . The official seal is the small state seal with the coat of arms of the region of Western Pomerania . It shows an upright griffin with a raised tail and the inscription "GEMEINDE PRUCHTEN * LANDKREIS VORPOMMERN-RÜGEN".

Attractions

  • Bodden coast: The territory of Pruchten and Bresewitz is bounded in the north, west and east by the lagoon of the Baltic Sea and the local Bodden waters. These shallow waters are predominantly part of the Vorpommersche Boddenlandschaft National Park . In addition to their ecological importance, they are important for fishing and maritime tourism in the region.
  • Meiningenbrücke : The bridge with a length of about 470 m was inaugurated in 1910. The riveted steel structure crosses the Meiningen river in the north between Bresewitz and the Zingst. The bridge, which was originally only built with a single track for rail and road traffic, has meanwhile been relieved by the construction of a replacement bridge for road traffic to the west and parallel to it.
  • Bresewitz train station : The former Bresewitz train station with tourist train service vehicles and a Darßbahn exhibition
  • The annual migration of the cranes to the roosting places on the bird protection islands Kirr and Barther Oie as well as to the feeding grounds on the mainland can be observed from locations in Bresewitz .
