Wittenhagen is a municipality north of Grimmen in the Vorpommern-Rügen district . It is administered by the Miltzow Office based in the Miltzow district of Sundhagen .

Wittenhagen is 10 km north of Grimmen and 17 km south of Stralsund . The community is located in a very wooded area.

history

With the Peace of Westphalia of 1648, Vorpommern and thus also the place Wittenhagen came under Swedish rule, after the place previously belonged to the Duchy of Pomerania . In 1815 the municipality and Western Pomerania came to the Prussian province of Pomerania .

Wittenhagen was part of the Grimmen district until 1952 and then belonged to the Grimmen district in the Rostock district until 1994 . Since 1990 the place belongs to the state of Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania.

Coat of arms, flag, official seal

The municipality has no officially approved national emblem, neither a coat of arms nor a flag . The official seal is the small state seal with the coat of arms of the region of Western Pomerania . It shows an upright griffin with a raised tail and the inscription "GEMEINDE WITTENHAGEN * LANDKREIS VORPOMMERN-RÜGEN".

• Heilgeistkirche in Abtshagen , nave from 1380, wooden tower from 1667, neo-Gothic furnishings from 1843, original Buchholz organ from 1842 (restored in 2001)

traffic

The federal autobahn 20 can be reached via the connection Grimmen-Ost (approx. 13 km).

The Berlin – Stralsund railway ( Berlin Northern Railway ) runs through the municipality, regional trains stop in Wittenhagen.
