history

Sagard

Gutshaus Neddesitz, part of the "Jasmar Resort Rügen" hotel complex

Sagard was first mentioned as Zagard in 1250 . The name of the municipality Sagard comes from Slavic and means something like enclosure or castle place . This indicates the formerly located but leveled Slavic rampart from the 12th century.

Since the year 1750 there have been the beginnings of a spa and bathing establishment. In 1795 the pastor Heinrich Christoph von Willich opened with his brother, the country doctor Dr. Moritz von Willich , a fountain, bathing and entertainment establishment . The bathing operation continued until around 1830. Today, the historical park at Brunnenaue is reminiscent of the then idyllic spa park with its promenades, fountain and bath houses.

The place was part of the Principality of Rügen until 1326 and then the Duchy of Pomerania . With the Peace of Westphalia of 1648, Rügen and thus also the area of Sagard became part of Swedish Pomerania . In 1815, Sagard came to the Prussian province of Pomerania as part of New Western Pomerania .

Since 1818 Sagard has belonged to the district of Rügen . Only in the years from 1952 to 1955 was it part of the Bergen district. The community then belonged to the Rügen district in the Rostock district until 1990 and became part of the state of Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania in the same year. The district of Rügen, which has been called this again since 1990, was merged in 2011 in the district of Vorpommern-Rügen.

On June 25, 1975, a MiG-21M crashed not far from the town at around 17:28 after the pilot lost his orientation. The pilot, Lieutenant Konrad Ritter, was still able to catapult himself, but died.

Since 1991 the historic town center has been redeveloped within the framework of urban development funding; the cityscape has improved and a small marina was created.

Chalk quarry near Quoltitz

Neddesitz toponym comes from the Slavic Nedasici and means people of Nedas . The Jasmar thermal baths and a large holiday and hotel complex of the Jasmar Resort Rügen have been located in Neddesitz since the 1990s . A chalk quarry in Quoltitz near Neddesitz was operated from the 19th century to 1954. Neuhof with Martinshafen: During the GDR era, the VEB Kleidwerk Wernigerode in the Neuhof district ran and maintained the “Wilder Schwan” children's holiday camp .

Pluckow belonged to the Spyker rule in the 16th century . The small Pluckow manor house fell into disrepair in the 1960s. On May 12, 1932, a Bronze Age depot was discovered during drainage work on the former Pluckow estate about 45 meters west of the estate and 25 meters north of the road. The recovered find weighed 7.5 kilograms and was delivered; it was later taken to the Provincial Museum in Stettin.

Vorwerk: In 1783 the estate had around 60 inhabitants. It was managed jointly with Gut Lubitz and with shares in Kapelle and Sagard. The renovated manor house probably dates from around 1900 and has served as a holiday home since 2007.
