The North Rügen office was formed on January 1, 2005 from the former offices of Jasmund and Wittow . The seat of the new office is the municipality of Sagard , eight municipalities are united in the office to carry out their administrative business. The official area occupies the northwest half of the Jasmund peninsula , the Schaabe spit and the Wittow and Bug peninsulas . It is located in the north of the island of Rügen in the Vorpommern-Rügen district , making it the northernmost administrative area of Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania .

The most famous cape in northeast Germany - Cape Arkona - is located in the official area . Nearby is the northernmost point of Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania at 54 ° 41'N (the foundling Siebenschneiderstein in front of Cape Gellort ). The southern part of the Bug peninsula is part of the Vorpommersche Boddenlandschaft National Park , the eastern part of the administrative area has a share in the Jasmund National Park .

Sandy and stone beaches, hiking trails, healthy air and the very good quality of bathing water are the main arguments for tourism , which plays the main role in the municipalities of the office. One of the magnets is the Jasmund National Park , the long sandy beach of the Schaabe between Glowe , Juliusruh and Spyker Castle . Agriculture also plays a role. The former military area south of Dranske , the Bug, is also to be developed for tourism in the future.
