Nonnevitz
Nonnevitz is a hamlet incorporated into Dranske on the north coast of the north German island of Rügen .
Location and appearance
Nonnevitz is located about six kilometers northeast of Dranske on the Rügen peninsula Wittow . Not far away are Cape Arkona to the east and Wieker Bodden to the south . The height of the place is 12 m above sea level. NN .
In the forest strip running parallel to the coast between the place and the Baltic Sea beach are a number of holiday facilities and campsites, u. a. Kreptitzer Heide and Regenbogen Camp Nonnevitz . To the east of Nonnevitz is a small wind farm with five wind turbines .
history
Nonnevitz was first mentioned in a document in 1193, when it was donated by Rügen prince Jaromar I to the Cistercian convent in Bergen . Johann Jacob Grümbke calls "Nunevitz" a "courtyard" in his forays through the Rügenland that appeared in 1805 .
In the 1960s, the Mövenort port near Nonnevitz was to be built for ferry traffic to the Soviet Union and Sweden . This project was not carried out.
Personalities
The writer Lilo Hardel (1914–1999) died in Nonnevitz.
