Juliusruh is a place on the north coast of Rügen . The village at the northern end of the Schaabe , a natural land connection between the Wittow and Jasmund peninsulas , is part of the community of Breege .

climate

Juliusruh is one of the sunniest places in Germany. In 2008, as the weather service Meteomedia announced , Juliusruh was the second sunniest place in Germany with 2089 hours of sunshine. history

The namesake Julius von der Lancken laid out the Juliusruh Park and with it the town in 1795 and built a mansion . Today Juliusruh is visited by thousands of holidaymakers every year due to its location on one of the longest sandy beaches on Rügen. The hunting lodge Juliusruh, built in 1795 on the northern edge of the park, was burned down and destroyed in 1945.

During the GDR era, VEB ORWO Wolfen established and maintained a company holiday camp for the children of its employees.

Radar station for researching the middle and high atmosphere

The Leibniz Institute for Atmospheric Physics , headquartered in Kühlungsborn near Rostock , operates a radar station for investigating the high atmosphere near Juliusruh . Radar systems with frequencies between one and 53 megahertz are used in this station .

The landmark of the station is a 70 meter high, free-standing steel lattice tower, which was built in 1960/61 and on which, in addition to various cell phone antennas, two rhombus antennas for the transmitter of the ion probe are attached.
