history

The area was settled in the Stone Age. Megalithic graves and trough mill stone finds testify to this .

Semlow was first mentioned in a document in 1320. The name is Slavic and is supposed to mean New Earth or New Home . In 1398 the place first appeared in the possession of the Behr family . The area belonged to them until the Second World War . Semlow became the ancestral home of the rich race. The community suffered badly during the Thirty Years' War . With the Peace of Westphalia in 1648, Vorpommern and thus Semlow came under Swedish rule until 1815 and then became part of the Prussian province of Pomerania . The community was part of the Franzburg-Barth district until 1952 , Stralsund district from 1946, and then belonged to the Ribnitz-Damgarten district in the Rostock district until 1994 .

In the place of the current castle there was an old Slavic border castle from 1565. The predecessor of today's manor house was built in 1565 as a border castle to Mecklenburg. The mansion was built in 1830 based on plans by Friedrich Wilhelm Buttel for Carl August von Behr-Negendank. It is a simple, classicistic , 15-axis plastered building with a four-column central projection . Around 1855, a greenhouse and orangery was added to the eastern side of the building . The western extension near the church was built around 1868 as a living area for the castle owner. Due to the high basement, the castle is three-story on the courtyard and park side. The five-axis central projection on the building front on the park side is particularly emphasized by flat wall columns. Originally the central risalit was once equipped with a triangular gable . On the right, between the castle and the orangery, there is a steep staircase as access to the castle park. The side of the castle facing the village is two-story. The existing on this side triaxial central projection is through the portico (entrance hall) and the resting thereon Altan highlighted. The pond on the park side, directly in front of the castle, was created between 1851 and 1853 in connection with the park design. On the southern edge of the pond there is a bald cypress and a North American conifer.

In 1767 a representative of the von Behr family took the name of the related but extinct Negendank family and now bore the name of Behr-Negendank . The following Pertinenzien (secondary estates) came to the Semlow estate: Carlshof, Palmzin, Wossen, Stormsdorf and Weitenhagen, later added: Behrenwalde, Katzenow and Koitenhagen. Further possessions are mentioned: Dölitz and Kranichshof. The von Behr-Negendank family with their headquarters in Semlow thus became one of the largest and most influential landowners in Pomerania.

Plennin manor

Plennin : The estate was owned by the von Moltke family in the 14th century . More recently, it fell to the von Behr-Negendanck family, who ran the neighboring Semlow estate until 1945. The manor house Plennin is a strict, classical building from the 19th century. It is privately owned. At first it was partially renovated with funds from the Ministry of Culture, then construction was stopped. Since then the house has fallen into disrepair and is not inhabited. Recommended for an emergency backup program.
