The Semlow Castle is a mansion in the style of a classical castle in Semlow in the district of Vorpommern-Rügen in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania . The character of the building was changed after 1945 and the facade was greatly simplified.

history

The manor house was commissioned by Carl von Behr-Negendank and built by the Strelitz court builder Friedrich Wilhelm Buttel around 1825. Around 1850, the castle was expanded with the addition of an orangery and a two-story living area. The building served the Behr-Negendank family as a residence until the Second World War . In 1945 the mansion was looted and partially destroyed; it then served as a residence for the refugees and displaced persons. In 1947 it became the property of the Semlow community, was refurbished and, until 1989, was used as a school, kindergarten, dining room and the community library.

The castle is privately owned, it is used for events such as weddings, concerts and celebrations. There is a ballroom and a hunting room that can be rented for festivities. A guest room is also rented out.

investment

At the time of completion around 1826, the two-storey castle consisted only of what is now the central part of the building. Its front facade, facing the village, contains 15 window axes, the middle three of which are on the central risers . Approximately half the height of the Mittelrisaliten is a supported by four pillars Altan and including an entrance that leads to the ballroom. The back of the building is three-storey and has 17 window axes, of which the middle five protrude from the building as a central projection. The eastern extension was built as an orangery around 1850 and was crowned by a square tower. This tower fell victim to the extensive renovation work after 1945, which is also responsible for the generally rather simple appearance today.
