Ulrich Carl August Wilhelm Hermann Axel Graf von Behr-Negendank (born May 9, 1826 in Semlow ; † September 8, 1902 there ) was a German landowner and politician in Pomerania. The original spelling of the name was "Behr-Negendanck"; but it is rarely used today.

Life

Ulrich von Behr-Negendank was the son of the landowner and politician Carl von Behr-Negendank , a member of the Rügen branch of the noble Behr family . After completing his school education at St. Katharinen-Gymnasium in Stralsund (Abitur: Michaelis 1844), he studied law in Heidelberg , which he later continued in Berlin . During his studies and afterwards he made trips to other European countries.

In 1853 he returned to Semlow; When he was of legal age, he had become the owner of his father's possessions, his full title was now until his elevation to the Prussian count in 1861: Ulrich von Behr-Negendanck zu Semlow and master of the Behrenwalde, Katzenow, Palmzin, Carlshof, Woosen, Stormsdorf, Weitenhagen, Koitenhagen, Kranichshof and Dölitz hereditary, castle and palace seats . In 1854 he married Elma Countess zu Inn- und Knyphausen (* 1834) from Lütetsburg , a sister of Edzard zu Innhausen and Knyphausen .

In 1861 he was the Prussian king to count charged . With a cabinet order of July 4, 1868, the dignity of count was extended to all of his legitimate offspring by royal decree. In the same year, the Semlow family fideikommiss was expanded to include the goods Behrenwalde ( Weitenhagen (district of Western Pomerania-Rügen) ), Katzenow ( Drechow ) and Koitenhagen (Weitenhagen (district of Western Pomerania-Rügen)).

In the course of time, Behr held various offices. From 1867 he was district administrator of the Franzburg district . From 1869 he was President of the District of Stralsund . From 1858 to 1868 he was a member of the Provincial Parliament of the Province of Pomerania . From 1868 he was a hereditary member of the Prussian mansion as the owner of the extended Fideikommiss Semlow . In the first and fifth electoral terms he was a member of the Reichstag for the Free Conservative Party . From 1883 to 1891 he was President of the Province of Pomerania in Prussia. In 1885 he built the Katzenow manor near Drechow. In 1891 he withdrew from active civil service and went into retirement.

Behr-Negendank was a legal knight of the Order of St. John .

In addition to his political career, he made a name for himself as an art collector and in the design of landscape gardens. So he acquired copperplate engravings, china and books. Around 1860, as the patron saint of the church , he had the Semlow church fundamentally restored by Carl Julius Milde . The landscape park and the palace gardens in Semlow were created on his initiative.

In 1870 he acquired the old von Behr family altar from the community of Deyelsdorf and had it restored. In 1881 the altar was set up in Semlow in the crypt chapel built for himself by Count von Behr-Negendank in the same year . After the Second World War, the Coronation Altar was brought to Stralsund, where it is now in the Marienkirche .

He married Countess Elma Sophie Elisabeth Amalie zu Innhausen and Knyphausen (born June 11, 1834 - April 1, 1919) in Berlin on May 20, 1854 , a daughter of the Hanoverian envoy Carl Wilhelm Georg zu Innhausen and Knyphausen (1784–1860) . The couple had several children:

Honors

Behr-Negendank became an honorary citizen of the city of Stralsund in 1890 and of the city of Stettin in 1891 .
