Julius von Bohlen (born October 29, 1820 , † December 24, 1882 ; full name Julius Freiherr von Bohlen-Bohlendorf ) was a German landowner and historical researcher.

origin

Julius von Bohlen belonged to the Bohlen family , one of the oldest noble families on Rügen . His father was Wilhelm Leopold Freiherr von Bohlen (* August 25, 1793), his mother Charlotte, born von Ferber (* July 1, 1797, † April 2, 1856) from the Turow family .

Life

He inherited an important property, which he increased. From 1851 to 1866 he was a member of the communal parliament of New Western Pomerania and Rügen . In 1865 the title of Treasurer in the Principality of Rügen and Lande Barth passed to him. In 1879 he became a member of the Prussian manor house . He was also a legal knight of the Order of St. John .

Bohlen devoted himself to researching the history of Pomerania , especially its closer homeland Rügen. Supported by his good financial situation, he built up a rich library, an archive and a collection of prehistoric and medieval antiquities. He published numerous historical sources and treatises, including the previously unprinted house book of the Pomeranian annalist Joachim von Wedel (1552–1609) in the library of the Litterarian Society in Stuttgart in 1883 .

Bohlensche Collection

After Bohlen's death, the Stettin State Archives bought parts of its archival collection in 1883, 1887 and 1890. In 1899 his map collection came from the Society for Pomeranian History and Archeology to the State Archives in Szczecin. In 1937 a repertory and an index of persons and subjects for the collection were made in the State Archives. Large parts of the collection, in particular files from the registries of the two ducal archives of the 16th and 17th centuries (Rep. 4 and Rep. 5), were previously also in Stettin, now partly in Stettin and partly in Greifswald been assigned. They can be recognized by the abbreviation "BB" on the folder.

Most of the collection belongs to the war losses of World War II . The remaining part, around 10% of the inventory, has been housed in the Archiwum Państwowe w Szczecinie , the successor to the Szczecin State Archives , since 1945 .
