Carl von Halfern , (born April 8, 1873 in Burtscheid , † October 20, 1937 in Berlin-Wilmersdorf ) was a German administrative lawyer and politician ( DVP ).

Life

The son of the Aachen cloth manufacturer, bank director and district administrator Friedrich von Halfern and Helene Christiane Fellinger passed his A-levels at the Einhard-Gymnasium and then studied law . From Halfern his doctorate in 1897 at the Friedrich-Alexander University of Erlangen for Dr. iur. utr. 1906–1907 he made a trip around the world, which took him to Aden ( Yemen ), India, Burma, China, Japan, the west coast of the USA and Mexico. From 1909 to 1916 he was district administrator in the district of Ottweiler , from 1916 to 1919 district administrator in the district of Saarbrücken . He was expelled from the French military administration in 1919 as administrative president for the Saar district. Initially Finance Councilor in the Prussian Ministry of Finance, the bachelor held office from 1922 to 1927 as regional president in the Hildesheim region and 1927-1930 in the Stettin region . From 1930 he was President of the Province of Pomerania . After the National Socialists came to power, he was given leave in the middle of the year and retired on October 1, 1933; Until 1936, however, he held the honorary office of a member of the Prussian State Council. In 1933 he became a corps bow bearer of the Rhenania Strasbourg to Marburg .

The Von-Halfern-Park in Aachen is named after his family , which Carl von Halfern inherited as the original private park and manor house after his father's death and which his mother managed during his absence. The circumstances after the end of the First World War resulted in a neglect of the park maintenance and led to a temporary deterioration of the complex. Finally, in 1925, von Halfern sold the land to the city of Aachen, and he gave the Villa Hochgrundhaus itself to the city on condition that it be used for a social cause. Since then, the park has also been open to the public.

Carl von Halfern found his final resting place in the family crypt on the Heissbergfriedhof Burtscheid / Aachen .
