Franz Carl von Gaertner

Franz Carl von Gaertner (born April 28, 1817 in Neuwied , † September 20, 1872 in Saarbrücken ) was a Prussian administrative officer.

Franz von Gaertner was the son of District Administrator Carl von Gaertner (1794-1840) and his wife Luise, née Winz (1796-1848). His brother Johann Otto (1829-1894) became a Prussian lieutenant general and Hermann major general.

Life

After graduating from high school in Kreuznach , he studied law at Bonn from 1837 . On August 10, 1838, he was one of the six founders of the Corps Palatia Bonn , listed as number 1 on the Corps list. In the final year of his undergraduate degree, he served as a one-year volunteer . After the auscultator test, he became an auscultator at the Koblenz district court in June 1840 . Two years later he passed the traineeship exam and at the end of August 1842 became a trainee lawyer at the Rhenish Court of Appeal in Cologne . In August 1846, Gaertner passed the assessor examination . After his first activities at the Bonn Regional Court , the Ministry of Justice and the Koblenz Regional Court, he was a legal assistant between 1848 and 1850 at the court martial of the VIII Army Corps in Koblenz, the Ministry of Justice and the General Procuratorate in Cologne. In 1849, as a corps auditor in the campaign against the Baden Revolution, at the request of the commander Moritz von Hirschfeld , he prepared an opinion on the martial law death sentence against the revolutionary Maximilian Dortu , in which he described it as flawed and expressly praised Dortmund's courageous demeanor at the hearing. The Prussian King Friedrich Wilhelm IV. Angered by this report by a " democratic auditor [s]", the execution of Dortmund could not prevent it.

In October 1850 he became procurator at the Saarbrücken regional court . After six months he was appointed state procurator in Saarbrücken.

Friedrich Wilhelm IV appointed Gaertner to the district administrator of the Saarbrücken district on December 24, 1855 . He held the office until his death in 1872.

Since 1953/54 the "Gaertnerstraße" in Saarbrücken-Dudweiler has been named after him.

Gaertner married Irma Mathilde Haldy (1833–1888) on July 1, 1851. The couple had several children:
